- Climate: Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Rain storms, or even hail, might suddenly appear. Summer days are typically hot but the nights are still quite cool. Be prepared - bring clothes like a fleece jacket, weatherproof shell jacket, good hiking boots and a hat.
- Wilderness Safety: Black bears do live in the area. Travelers should familiarize themselves with basic bear awareness practices. Link Other large mammals are rarely seen. When travelling further into the backcountry, it is important to research wildlife, drinking water, fire hazard, avalanche safety, and first aid.
- Money: Cash machines (ATMs) are few and far between in the Slocan Valley. Merchants do not all accept credit or debit cards. It's a good idea to travel with some cash. Most places will accept US dollars, but prefer Canadian.
